Scientists at the Centre of Excellence in Phytochemical Nanotechnology, part of the KSCSTE – Jawaharlal Nehru Tropical Botanic Garden (JNTBGRI) at Puthenthope Campus, have uncovered the remarkable wound healing properties of the red ivy plant, Strobilanthesalternata (Burm.f.) Moylan ex J.R.I.Wood. The active compound of this plant is identified as acteoside, which surpasses the healing capability of market-standard povidone-iodine ointment. Recognizing the potential of acteoside, the scientists have developed an innovative multi-layered, multifunctional wound healing pad featuring acteoside as its key ingredient.
