Director
Dr. A.G. Pandurangan (Born: 1958) served as the 9th Director of JNTBGRI. He had joined the Institute as Scientist – C in 1992 and retired as Director in May 2018. During his tenure, he established a modern Herbarium with state – of – the – art facilities for Taxonomic studies, Conservatory for RET species, Wild Balsam species, Butterfly Garden, Insectivorous Plants, Mangoes etc. He was responsible for revamping the commercial and species orchidariums and facelifted the overall garden landscape. He prepared a masterplan for improving tourism potential of the garden. He discovered 30 new species to the plant science, published 188 research papers and 4 books; produced 15 PhDs. He was recipient of V.V. Sivarajan Gold Medal in recognition of his contributions to Plant Taxonomy from IAAT and later had become the President of IAAT. He served as, Co-ordinator for Biosphere Programme; Member, Assistance to Botanic Gardens, Ecosystem Research Programme etc. constituted by MoEF&CC, Govt. of India.
