Dr. P. G. Latha was the 8th director of TBGRI. She had been with TBGRI since 1982. She had initiated several development programmes like Compost Manufacturing Facility in TBGRI in association with NABARD and successfully organized the TBGRI Open House during December 2011, which attracted over 35,000 visitors after a long span of 17 years. TBGRI was renamed as Jawaharlal Nehru Tropical Botanic Garden and Research Institute (JNTBGRI) in fond memory of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the visionary Prime Minister of India during this period.
